Throwback-Drake: Started From The Bottom
Tumblr media
Drake's "Started From The Bottom" is the first single from his 2013 album, Nothing Was The Same. He co-wrote the single with Noah Shebib and Michael Coleman about his early life. Coleman also produced "Started From The Bottom" under his production name, Mike Zombie. Drake was on his third album and had already become a worldwide rap star but he wanted to get into the mindset of his younger self before he became successful. He cited Marvin Gaye's Here, My Dear as an influence because he never intended to make a straight rap album, wanting instead to "make songs for the people." Rapper Future was in the studio with Drake and kept telling the engineer to start the song from the bottom and Drake used it as the song's title.
"Started From The Bottom"'s shuffling snare drum and melodramatic piano grabbed ears and, with Drake's words, became one of the biggest aspirational rap hits since Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)." Director X was at the helm of the video that had appearances from Drake's mother, Noah Shebib, and Boi-1da. The song was one of seven singles that made Nothing Was The Same the seventh best-selling album of 2013 in the United States.
Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, Papoose, Wyclef Jean, Chris Brown, Meek Mill, Ice Cube, Warren G, Chino XL, and Soulja Boy have recorded remixes of the single. Drake released his eighth studio album, For All The Dogs, in 2023. Drake had a rap battle with Kendrick Lamar in 2024 that started when Lamar dissed Drake and J. Cole on the song "Like That." Drake released the singles "Push Ups," "Taylor Made Freestyle," "Family Matters," and "The Heart Part 6."  Lamar fired back with "Euphoria," "Meet the Grahams," and "Not Like Us." Rap fans agreed that Lamar won the battle and "Not Like Us" became the biggest pop song of 2024. Drake celebrated his 38th birthday (Oct. 24) by giving away free chicken slider sandwiches from Dave's Hot Chicken.

We had a pretty good week! I don’t want to jinx us but Little Miss seems to have a turned a bit of a corner. She still cries, but there are also times where she’ll just sit quietly or even smile! So that’s a big improvement

Over the weekend I transitioned her from sleeping at night in the rock and play to flat on her back in the pack and play and that went pretty well also! Mom win!
Since the kiddos are pretty much exactly 2 years apart, I’ve been loving using the TimeHop app to see pictures of Squish from two years ago at her age. Here are a few side by sides:
She’ll be 3 months on Sunday so look for a more detailed update this weekend!
That’s all for this week!
Enjoy! –Lindsay–

Today we celebrated Clark turning 1!
It was a small family gathering that was short and sweet. We only had immediate family there for lunch and birthday pie.
As a minimalist, eco-friendly, non-toxic mother I wanted to avoid things like a cake smash with sugar and fake color filled cake, as well as more toys to fill our babies already full room. So our party had a gluten free birthday berry cobbler pie, no presents(except for the grandparents who just can’t resist), and no fancy decorations, just some photos to remember the past 12 months of learning who this wonderful little boy is.
The food was pretty delicious too! I made most of it myself, my mom helped with the fruit bowl, and great-grandma made a pot of beans, and my mother in law made her famous fried shrimp.
For the pie, I made a whole pie for Clark to dig into and then used my Pampered Chef individual brownie pan to make little mini pies for everyone else. I used the recipe below from The Coconut Mama for the crust which is super simple and fast to make, it just took a while to put the sticky dough into all the individual tins. The filling is simply blackberries and a few sliced strawberries. The crumble on top of the pie is almond meal with coconut oil mixed in with a fork to create clumps and a little bit of honey to sweeten it. For the individual cobblers, I added coconut sugar instead of honey since I knew the adults would want the real thing.
Clark is a pretty clean eater in general, except for throwing food on the floor, so the grandparents were a little disappointed that he wasn’t covered in cake but he got to enjoy one of his favorite foods toxin and sugar free.
Keeping the party simple, minimal, and short really help lessen the load on me as the party planner and his mama. It wasn’t too stressful; I got to sit and eat and enjoy the food I prepared, and at the end of it all I wasn’t totally exhausted. I think a big thing that helped me keep stress levels down and enjoy the celebration was just not worrying about what anyone else thought about the party I had planned. I didn’t worry if it was good enough, or decorated enough, or fun enough. I did my best and then I let it all go and just enjoyed my son.
We are all just doing our best as mothers, every day taking the best care we can of our little ones. There’s no room for judgment or criticism in our busy joy filled days, either from others or from ourselves. Now go make this cobbler recipe, and enjoy a delicious healthy dessert!
